Himlerville

The 1920's, as we were told, was a roaring era.  An era where anyone who sought the American Dream, could find it. The American Dream could be achieved by anyone and everyone. They could be rich or poor, American or "new" American.  

The sky was the limit and Mr. Himler, a Hungarian peasant, came looking for his destiny.  He brought his vision and ambition to the hills of Eastern KY, as well as bringing his fellow Hungarians. His vision was to make men not "owners of wealth", but "owners of their own destiny".  

Himlerville was established in what is now known as Beauty KY. The community was a self-sustaining and at its height, Himlerville boasted electricity (with it's own powerhouse), an opera house, stores, bakery, and even ice cream parlor.  Many of the structures from this era have disappeared but, a few still remain.  Mr Himler's House is one of those those still with us today.  Himler House remains on the hill overlooking her domain.  It is a reminder of a man who sought to forge his destiny in the coal mines of KY.  A coal miner who embraced the American dream with great purpose by sharing with other Hungarian immigrants.
